Biblical Counseling for Women

Christ-centered soul care, fully online, from an ACBC-certified counselor.

You have been holding it together for a long time now.

You are a Christian. You believe every word of what you confess on Sunday. And yet something in you is not settling the way it once did, the anxiety will not ease, the marriage has grown thin, the mornings with your children weigh more than they should, the spiritual life you knew has gone quiet in places it used to sing.

When you have looked for help, most of what you found either wanted to prescribe you something, or wanted to sell you the same self-help repackaged with a few verses added on top. That is not what you need. You know it. And that is why you are on a page like this one, searching for something you may not have known how to name until now.

You are looking for biblical counseling for women. Real, grounded, Christ-centered soul care from a counselor who takes Scripture as seriously as she takes your pain.

Let me tell you what it actually is, who it is for, and how to know if it is the right next step for you.

What Biblical Counseling for Women Actually Is
(Not What You've Been Told)

Biblical counseling is soul care built on the sufficiency of Scripture. It rests on the conviction that God's Word speaks directly and specifically to the struggles of the human heart, and that lasting change is not first a clinical process, it is a discipleship process. Biblical counselors are formally trained through certifying bodies like ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counselors) or seminary programs like Westminster and Trinity.

Biblical counseling for women is not devotional coaching. It is not Bible study with feelings attached. It is not a pastor's wife who is a good listener over coffee, though those things have their place, and God uses them. Biblical counseling is a specific discipline with a specific method: a trained counselor sitting with you, over time, helping you see what your heart is actually treasuring underneath the anxiety, the anger, or the exhaustion, and helping you bring that heart to Christ.

For Christian women specifically, that means a counselor who understands the particular shape your struggles take. The tangle of identity that comes with motherhood. The way marriage strain hides in exhaustion. The loneliness that has nothing to do with being alone. The spiritual dryness that comes with pouring yourself out for years without stopping to be filled.

Who Biblical Counseling for Women Is For — and Who It Isn't

It is likely a good fit for you if:

  • You are a Christian woman who takes Scripture seriously and wants Scripture to be central in the counseling work, not decorative

  • You are dealing with real struggles — anxiety, depression, marriage strain, motherhood overwhelm, identity questions, spiritual dryness — and you want help that goes to the root, not just the surface

  • You are willing to do the work. Biblical counseling is not passive

  • You want a counselor who will be tender with you but honest with you

  •

It is likely not the right fit if:

  • You are in an acute crisis — active suicidal ideation, ongoing abuse, severe untreated mental illness. If that is you, please contact a crisis line, your physician, or 988 immediately. Biblical counseling can walk alongside clinical care, but it should not replace it in a crisis.

  • You want a counselor who will layer Bible verses onto secular therapy techniques. That is Christian therapy, and it is a different thing than biblical counseling. Both have their place; they are not the same.

  • You are not sure whether Scripture is the authority in your life. That is a real and worthy question — but it's one we would want to work through first, before biblical counseling would fit.

What Scripture Actually Says About Soul Care for Women

There is a common assumption in Christian culture that "biblical counseling for women" means Titus 2, Proverbs 31, and instructions about submission. If that is what you were expecting from this page, I want to gently disagree.

Scripture speaks to women as whole souls, not as roles to be shored up. Look at the women God meets in the pages of the Bible. Hagar in the wilderness. Hannah pouring out her heart in the temple. The Samaritan woman at the well. Mary at the feet of Jesus. The bleeding woman who reached for the hem of His garment. What you notice about every one of them is that Christ meets her as she is - with what she actually carries, not with a lecture on what she should have been doing better.

That is the posture biblical counseling for women should have. Not "here is what a godly woman does." But "here is the God who sees you, names you, calls you His, and is not going anywhere while you work this out."

Isaiah 43 tells you He has called you by name, and you are His. Colossians 3 tells you your life is hidden with Christ in God. Psalm 34 tells you He is near the brokenhearted. Those are not decorations. That is the actual ground biblical counseling stands on.

What a Session Actually Looks Like

At Renew and Bloom, I meet with women in two ways.

Email counseling — $100/month, up to 8 emails. You write me at your own pace. When the toddler is finally asleep. When your husband is at work. When the ache is fresh at 2 a.m. and you cannot get back to sleep. I read what you send, sit with it, pray over it, and write back with a thoughtful response — Scripture, questions, gentle challenge, prayer. Many women love this format because there is no scheduling pressure, and the writing itself is where they process. Others use it as a supplement between video sessions.

Video sessions — $75 per session. 60-90 minutes, face to face over video. We work through what you are carrying - I ask questions, we open Scripture together, and I help you name what is happening beneath the surface. Sessions are usually weekly or biweekly at the start, and we adjust from there.

Both begin with a free 15-minute consultation call — no cost, no pressure. It is the time we figure out together whether biblical counseling for women is the right next step for you, and whether we are a good fit as counselor and client.

How Biblical Counseling for Women Differs From Christian Therapy

I get this question every week from women who have tried Christian therapy and are wondering if biblical counseling is something different or just the same thing with a different label. It is a real difference, and it matters.

Christian therapy (or Christian counseling) is licensed clinical work done by a therapist who happens to be a Christian. The counselor is trained in clinical models — CBT, EMDR, psychodynamic therapy - and integrates their faith on top of that framework. They can diagnose. They can bill insurance. They may pray with you and reference Scripture, but the driving toolkit is clinical.

Biblical counseling starts from a different foundation. The framework is Scripture applied through a specific theological grid, not a clinical model with faith added on top. Biblical counselors do not diagnose. We do not prescribe. We do not bill insurance. What we do is sit with you in the exact place Scripture speaks - and Scripture speaks into more than most Christian women have been taught to expect.

Both can be honoring to God. They are not interchangeable. If what you want is symptom management rooted in clinical technique, Christian therapy may serve you well. If what you want is discipleship-shaped soul care rooted in God's Word, biblical counseling is what you are looking for.

How to Know If Biblical Counseling for Women Is Right For You Right Now

  • You do not need to have it all figured out before you book. Most women I sit with are not sure at the start whether this is what they need. That is what the free consult is for.

  • Here is a simple exercise, if it helps. Write down the last three moments this week when you felt most stuck. Not the topic — the moment. Read them back. If what you notice is that you keep coming back to something Scripture actually speaks into — the fear underneath the anxiety, the anger that keeps surprising you, the identity that has gotten tangled in a role, the spiritual life that has gone quiet — then biblical counseling for women is likely the next right step.

  • Book the free consult. We will talk. If it turns out this is not the right fit for you, I will tell you honestly, and I will point you toward what might be.

About Your Counselor

I'm Megan Parker, an ACBC-certified biblical counselor and M.A. candidate in Biblical Counseling at Trinity Bible College and Theological Seminary (expected December 2026). I walk with Christian women through anxiety, depression, marriage struggles, motherhood, and questions of identity — always pointing back to the sufficiency of Christ.

I also write regularly on the topics that come up most often in the counseling room. If you want a sense of how I think and how I hold Scripture, a few of my recent posts:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is biblical counseling for women only for Reformed or evangelical women? No — but you should know your counselor's theological convictions before you book. Ask me on the consult call. I hold to historic evangelical convictions and I will always be upfront about that.

Do you work with women who take medication for anxiety or depression? Yes. Biblical counseling is not opposed to medication. Bodies can be broken, and medication is a legitimate tool when your physician has prescribed it. Biblical counseling works alongside your medical care, not against it.

How long does biblical counseling for women usually take? It varies. Some women see meaningful change in 6–8 weeks. Others walk with me for a year or more, especially if what they are working through is layered or long-standing. I will not keep you in counseling longer than you need to be there.

Can I do biblical counseling for women completely online? Yes. Renew and Bloom is fully online - email and video only. There is no physical location and no in-person option. This is by design, so that Christian women wherever they live can access biblical soul care from a certified counselor.

What if I have never done any kind of counseling before? Most women I work with are first-timers. The free consult is the place to ask every question you have, before you commit to anything.

Is biblical counseling for women the same as pastoral counseling? No. Pastoral counseling is short-term care from a pastor as part of shepherding a congregation. Biblical counseling is a specialized discipline with formal certification and a defined method. Both have their place; they are not the same thing.

What kinds of struggles do you most commonly work with? Anxiety, depression, motherhood overwhelm, marriage difficulty (typically with one spouse when the other is not participating), people-pleasing and fear of man, spiritual dryness, and questions of identity — especially in life transitions like postpartum, empty nesting, or ministry burnout.
